A Greyhound Is Born

3 Jul

Well…technically…the greyhound hasn’t been born yet.  But he’s due in the next couple of weeks.  His mom, a young lass who hasn’t even made it to the track yet, will be here Sunday.  Heather is driving to Southland Park in West Memphis, AR to see a stakes race – our boy Primo has a littermate that is one of the favorites – and to pick up the soon-to-be mama dog.

Meanwhile, back at Greystar Kennels, I will be preparing the kennel for mama dog’s arrival.  This includes building a whelping box.  I’ve decided to go big – 6′x6′ – to ensure maximum comfort.  We have a couple of baby pools that we could have used, I suppose, but it’s worth a little money and labor to make sure it’s done right.  I will be taking photos so I can post a full pictorial update.

Stay tuned…

Ken, you and Heather are having a rare opportunity to assist in the whelping and I guess this event will give me a great-grand dog. Can’t wait to see the newborns. I’ll be checking for photographs.
